In one day (full day): ideal if you are short on time in Cusco. You leave before dawn, travel by train and are back in Cusco the same night.
In 2 days: you sleep in Aguas Calientes and visit Machu Picchu in the morning, without the rush. It is the most comfortable option.
On foot: the Inca Trail arrives through the Sun Gate, while Salkantay, Inca Jungle and Lares are alternatives through mountains and cloud forest.
Whichever you choose, entrance tickets have a daily limit: book well ahead, especially from June to September.
