Half a Day Tour
Tour Description:
Discover one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Peruvian Andes! The Ausangate 7 lakes hike takes you into the heart of the Vilcanota range, home to crystal-clear turquoise, green, and blue lakes surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
Details of the trip.
Early morning pick-up (4:30-45 am) form your selected location in Cusco. Well leave the city and drive towards the community of Pacchanta (4,200 m / 13,779 ft), a traditional Andean village located at the base of the majestic Ausangate Mountain. Here, well organize our gear and enjoy a delicious breakfast to get the energy we need for the hike.
The trail covers a total distance of 12 km / 8 miles, which takes about 5-6 hours round trip. Around 9:00 am, well begin our hike on relatively flat terrain with gentle ascents. The main challenge is the altitude, as well be walking above 4,500 m / 14,760 ft, reaching a maximum elevation of 4.800 m / 15,740 ft.
Along the way, well discover a series of stunning turquoise, green, and blue lagoons at the very base of Nevado Ausangate – each with its own shape, color, and Quechua name passed down through generations. You’ll also have the chance to see alpacas and llamas grazing freely, as well as meet local villagers who create beautiful textile from natural alpaca fiber.
Well return to Pacchanta around 2.00 pm, to enjoy a well-deserved lunch and then relax in the natural hot springs, famous for their therapeutic properties that soothe tired muscles after the hike. Finally, well board our transport back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 6.00 pm.
